Getting admitted to our hospital

Arranging an admission to hospital can be stressful. At iMH we want to make the process as easy as possible.

Mental health admissions

The following steps are required to be admitted to our hospital for mental health support.

Step 1 – Obtain a Referral

You will need to arrange an appointment with your GP or treating psychiatrist to obtain a referral to one of our hospital psychiatrists.

A list psychiatrists who admit to our hospital is available on our website

Step 2 – Call us

Once you have your referral, contact our admissions and assessment team who will ensure appropriate admission arrangements are made. They will also advise you of health fund requirements or out of pocket expenses.

Call our Admissions team on 1800 943 003

Following this assessment, we will then discuss your referral with one of our hospital psychiatrists who will be responsible for your care.

Step 3 – Confirmation of Admission

A member of our team will contact you with confirmation of your admission date and time. They will also be able to assist you with any questions you have.

Step 4 – Day of Admission

Our reception staff will welcome you upon arrival to our hospital and confirm your admission details.

If your private health cover requires you to pay an excess or co-payment this will be required at reception. You will also be required to sign some important documents which include informed financial consent and our privacy policy.

Step 5 – Orientation

A member of our team will guide you to your room and provide an orientation to the hospital. Nursing staff will introduce themselves and discuss the ward routine relevant to your treatment and complete your admission assessment. This assessment in consultation with yourself, your nominated carer and the psychiatrist will form the basis of your plan of care.
