Arrange an Admission

Arranging a hospital admission can feel like a big step, and it’s normal to have questions about what to expect. Our Admissions Team is here to guide you through the process, providing clear information and support at each stage.

Mental Health Admissions

At iMH, we aim to make your admission as smooth, clear, and stress-free as possible. The process is guided through the following five steps:

  1. Obtain a Referral

  2. Contact our friendly Admissions Team

  3. Admission Confirmation

  4. Day of Admission

  5. Orientation

Step 1 - Obtain a Referral

The only step you need to take is obtaining a referral from your GP or specialist. For more information on how to do this:

Step 2 - Contact our friendly Admissions Team

Send your referral to our Admissions and Assessment Team, and we will guide you through the rest. You can do this by:

Once received, we will make contact with you to:

  • Have an initial conversation and explore your concerns further
  • Advise you on health fund requirements or any out-of-pocket expenses
  • Answer any questions you may have

After this, your referral will be reviewed by one of our psychiatrists, who will provide a clinical recommendation on the best way we can support you.

Step 3 - Admission Confirmation

A member of our Admissions Team will contact you to discuss the clinical recommendation and confirm your admission date and time. They are also able to answer any questions or concerns you may have and provide support if you’re feeling unsure or hesitant about proceeding, a completely natural response.

Step 4 - Day of Admission

On the day of your admission, our reception staff will:

  • Welcome you to the hospital
  • Confirm your admission details
  • Collect any required health fund excess or co-payment
  • Provide and guide you through important documents, including financial consent and our privacy policy

Step 5 - Orientation

A member of our team will guide you to your room and provide an orientation to the hospital. You will then be introduced to our Nursing staff who will:

  • Discuss the ward routine relevant to your treatment
  • Complete your admission assessment

This assessment, in consultation with you, your nominated carer, and the psychiatrist, forms the foundation of your personalised care plan.
