Overnight Admissions

We offer overnight stays in a structured hospital environment to provide extra support and care when things feel particularly challenging. The aim is to help you feel safe, stable, and ready to continue your recovery in the community.

About Overnight Admissions

What are Overnight Admissions?

An overnight admission is a short stay in hospital where we support clients with additional care and focus on creating a safe, supportive space to reset, recover and plan for ongoing care.

During this time, clients are supported by a multidisciplinary team, including their treating psychiatrist, to better understand their needs, begin or adjust treatment, and take steps toward feeling more stable and confident.

Who is it for?

Overnight Admissions may be helpful if:

  • You’re going through a difficult time and would benefit from stepping away from your usual environment to reset with professional support
  • You feel you would benefit from a safe, structured space to pause, stabilise and focus on your wellbeing
  • You would like support in a calm hospital environment to help you work through current challenges
  • You would benefit from help reviewing or adjusting your treatment with close clinical support
  • You are preparing to return to your usual routine and would benefit from additional support during this transition

Some clients may also be admitted as part of a planned approach to help reduce the risk of future setbacks, alongside ongoing community care.

How long are Overnight Admissions?

The length of stay varies for each client and is decided together with the treating psychiatrist.

What to Expect During Admission

During an overnight stay, clients can expect:

  • 24-hour support from experienced clinical staff
  • Regular check-ins and guidance from their treating psychiatrist
  • Access to therapy-based programs tailored to individual needs
  • A structured but supportive daily routine

Inpatient Programs

Clients have the opportunity to take part in a range of supportive group programs designed to aid recovery.

These programs provide:

  • A safe, non-judgmental space to share and reflect
  • Practical strategies for managing challenges
  • Support in setting goals and building coping skills
  • Education about mental health and wellbeing

Activities may include:

  • Psychoeducation sessions
  • Gentle physical activity
  • Therapeutic and creative activities

Participation is encouraged but always guided by what feels manageable for each client.

Leave During Admission

No leave is permitted during the first 72 hours of admission to allow clients' treating psychiatrist to complete an initial assessment.

After this period, leave may be granted and tailored to each client’s needs and progress at the discretion of their treating psychiatrist and nursing staff.

In some cases, therapeutic day leave may be recommended. This allows clients to spend short periods of time outside the hospital, helping them gradually build confidence in their usual environment while still having the reassurance of support.

Medication and Safety

If medication is part of client treatment, it will be carefully reviewed and supported throughout their stay.

Clients are encouraged to:

  • Bring current medications and prescriptions to hospital
  • Keep the treating team informed about any supplements or changes
  • Speak openly about how they are feeling with their treatment

The goal is to ensure that any treatment plan feels safe, effective and right for the individual.

Discharge and Ongoing Care

Planning for what comes next is an important step toward recovery.

Before discharge, clients are supported with:

  • A personalised plan for ongoing care
  • Connections to community supports and services
  • Practical tools and information to help maintain progress
  • A follow-up call after discharge to check in and offer support

Where appropriate, family and carers can also be included in this process.
